Terms & Condtions

  1. Qualification Criteria
  • Players of Sri Lankan Muslim origin based in Harrow (HA / NW) , Slough (Up to 2 team positions in each season) and aged over 18.
  • HSL League Players who have migrated from Harrow to any other areas are qualified to play HSL League.
  • Any players who are playing for any other Professional Badminton leagues will not be accepted to join or stay in the HSL League.

 

  1. Definitions
  • HSL-M: HSL Member. A player who has played in HSL league and completed one full season (list will be available with details)
  • HSL-P: HSL Player. A player who is currently in the playing in the HSL league
  • SP: Substitute Player. An HSL-M or HSL-P who has been proposed by a team to be their substitute player for a given league season
  • LTRL: League TWO Relegation List
  • NPT: New Partner Team. An existing player who teams up with a new non HSL-M or HSL-P

 

  1. Fees and Payment
    • League membership fee of £120 will be charged per team per season.
    • Payment must be fully paid 10 days prior to the league start date. Payment should be made to the below account.

  • If any teams or individuals withdraw from the League during the season, the membership fee will not be refunded.

 

  1. Team composition and Matches
  • Total number of Teams will be as follows:
    • League ONE – 14 Teams
    • League TWO – 16 Teams
  • Matches will be scheduled once a month. Full schedule will be announced in advance.
  • Each team will play 2/3 Matches on each allotted day.
  • Each team will play with the rest of the teams within their League throughout the League season
  • Shuttle used will be Mavis 300 yellow

 

  1. Match Scoring and Match order on a day
  • Matches will be based on best of 3 games of 21 points.
  • At 20 all, the side which gains a 2-point lead first, wins that game.
  • At 24 all, the side scoring the 25th point, wins that game.

 

  1. Playing times
  • League 2 Start time: 17.20hrs, League 1 Start time: 19:20hrs, Venue : Whitefriars School

 

  1. Points and Net Rate Allocation
  • Winning teams will get 2 points and losing team will get 0 points.
  • Net rate will be calculated based on the total differences of all sets played.
  • Sub used day will get -1 points.

 

  1. Withdrawal from the league due to injuries or other reasons and Entitlement to refunds
  • You have the right to withdraw from the League any time
  • In such cases, you will not be entitled for any refunds
  • If the cancelling team has played 6 or more of their matches, 2 points will be awarded to the opposition teams for the balance matches
  • If the number of matches played are less than or equal to 5, all the matches will be cancelled, and the points table will be reset with 0 for all

 

  1. Substitute Player (SP):
  • A team may propose an HSL-M or HSL-P as a SP for their team for a given league season
  • An SP can only be a substitute for a given ONE team during a league season
  • The SP for each team must be given to the Admin before the League start date
  • It is the team’s responsibility to ensure that the nominated SP is available when needed
  • SP can only be used at the following situations:
    • With a 24-hour notice (Text, WhatsApp, etc) given to the admin before the match day: The 24-hour notice is relaxed if a player is injured on the day (Or any other emergency with a valid reason) and SP can be used with the loss of a “SP used day”
    • Only for 2 league days (SP used days)
    • If an HSL-P becomes permanently unavailable (injury, migration, etc) for a season, the SP may continue to be the partner for the team till end of season
    • If an HSL-P become unavailable/retire for a short term (injury, emergencies) for more than 2 minutes, SP may be used to play the matches for the given league day. The retired HSL-P will become unqualified to play the rest of the league matches on that day and the day will be counted as a “SP used days”
  • If an injured player has played for more than 4 league months (50% or more) then his partner will continue with the nominated SP, else, a New Partner can be selected based on the criteria defined above.
  • SP Cannot be used on the 1st day of the League.
  • When the SP is used, if the opponent team is the SP’s team, the match will need to be played 1 against two
  • League ONE SP can be any HSL-M or HSL-P
  • League TWO SP can only be an HSL-M or HSL-P, who is in League TWO or retired as a Leagues TWO player. A retired League ONE HSL-M can be a SP for League 2 after passing one season.
  • 1 Point will be deducted for a given day when a SP is used.
  • SP can be used only for 2 League days. Exception will be given, subject to Admin approval, if a player becomes unavailable for the season due to injury or any other reasons. In such event, the SP shall continue to play till the end of season. The player who left the team will be considered as disqualified to play in the current League.
  • To be part of league and use the SP with Admin approval, a player must have played at least two league days.

 

  1. Rules of Forfeiture and Net Points Rate calculation
  • If any teams are unable to complete the matches on the allotted day due to any reason, the team will be forfeited the match and awarded 0 points and the opponent team will be awarded 2 points (Subject to decision by Admin)
  • Current Net Rate Difference (NRD) will be calculated and added to the opponent’s team and deducted from the forfeited team.
  • NRD will be calculated as per the following formula:
    • A = Opponent Team’s Average rate (Rounded down to 0 decimals)
    • B = Forfeited Team’s Average rate (Rounded down to 0 decimals)
    • NRD = A – B
  • NRD will be added to the opponent team and deducted from the forfeited team.
  • For example: if the total points on the table for the opponent team is 50 and they had played 4 games, total net average points will be 12 (A). Similarly, if the total points on the table for Team being Forfeited is -40 and had played 4 games, total net average points will be -10 (B). Hence, NRD=22
  • Accordingly, 22 will be added to the opponent team’s Net Rates and deducted from the forfeited team’s Net Rate.
  • In the event NRD is negative, it will be multiplied by -1 before applying to the team’s Net Rates.

 

  1. Awards and Final tournament
  • Top 8 teams participated and completed the league will be presented with awarded.
  • Special awards for the Top 4 teams will be awarded.
  • Top 8 teams will play on a knock-out tournament on the last day. The winner and runners up teams will be awarded.
  • Final day tournament will be played in the following structure for League 1 & 2
  • Quarter final (1 vs 5) (2 vs 6) (3 vs 7) (4 vs 8) – Semi Final (1/5 vs 3/7) (2/6 vs 4/8)

 

  1. Punctuality and breaks during matches
  • An attendance register will be maintained to mark the late attendees.
  • If a team is late, the Opponent team will gain advantage on every set of their games as per the table below.

  • 5 Points awarding will be done as per the match schedule of the day.
  • If one player is late, game points will be awarded to the opposition team in every set as per the above Late Rule. If the partner does not arrive before the completion of 1st round of matches, the partner who is present shall decide either to play the matches single against double (rules apply) subject to above late rule (1st & 2nd Game Sets will be awarded 5 points for opponent team, NOT on 3rd set) or forgo the matches and award points to the opponent teams. If both players of a team do not arrive before the 1st round of matches are complete, the points will be awarded to the opponent teams.
  • If both teams are late, then both the teams will be penalised as per the Late Rule table above. If both do not arrive before the 1st round of matches are complete, both teams will be awarded with 0 points & 0 net points.
  • 1 minute break shall be taken when one side reaches 11 points and 2 minutes break between each game. Maximum of 2minutes will be allowed for any injuries during the entire game. No other breaks will be allowed.

 

  1. New Teams Joining the League
  • Any new teams wishing to join will start in League Two.
  • A maximum of four new teams will be added every season.
  • A deadline of one month prior to the League Start date will be set for new applications for joining.
  • If more than four team applications are received, there will be a playoff to choose the four teams.
  • Maximum of 12 teams will be accepted for the play off based on first come first selected basis.
  • Any League 1 or 2 player who has qualified for the current year is not allowed to participate in the playoff.
  • Any returning player after at least one season’s break, whether a former League 1 or 2 player, will be allowed to participate in the playoff.

 

  1. Promotion and Relegation
  • Bottom 4 teams of League ONE will be relegated to League TWO
  • Top 4 teams of League TWO will be promoted to League ONE
  • Last 4 teams of League TWO will be in the LTRL. If new teams sign up, four teams will be selected based on a knockout game organised by the HSL Admin. A fee of £10 will be levied from the teams to cover the cost.
  • If League ONE team/s become/s unavailable for the new season, the number of vacant positions will be filled by a current League TWO teams in the order of their positions in the current League TWO table
  • Playing with new partner – New Partner Team (NPT):
    • Any HSL-M can become a partner for any teams
    • If none HSL-M becomes a partner
      • League ONE: NPT will be considered as a New Team and will be place in the 11th position onward in League TWO. Priority will be given to the league player’s position and rank on the league table based on their last season’s rank on the League table.
      • League TWO:NPT will play a match with LTRL team. IF more than 1 NPTs, matches will be paired with LTRL teams in the order of Rank. Winners will secure the position held by the NPT team. If the looser is NPT, the team will be placed in the 11th position onward in League TWO according to the Rank in the League table points.

 

  1. League Table position for Clubs

–    After completion of each League season, the League table positions held by the teams would belong to their respective clubs, if those teams represent a club.

–    Individual players, not represented by any clubs will continue to hold their position in the respective League Tables.

–    The respective club is responsible to provide all teams for each of the positions they hold in the League according to the order of the Rank. Failure to provide the teams would cause the clubs to lose the positions by the number of unavailable teams.

 

  1. Switching partners for next season: only applies to individual teams
  • If the partners of League ONE or TWO split and team up with new partners, both the league players will play a single match between them, best of 3 games.
  • The winner will secure their place on their relevant League if the new partner is an HSL-M player.
  • the loosing Player
  • League ONE: will be placed on the League TWO 11th The Bottom team on League TWO Relegation List will be eliminated. If there are more than 2 teams split from League One, then the 2nd team will secure the 12th position and so on according their Rank.
  • League TWO: will be put on the bottom of the New Team Joining the League

 

  1. Leaving a Club

If an HSL-P leaves their current club, they will need to join League 2 as a new team and secure their position through a playoff. This new team can choose to join a different club, but they will not be permitted to return to their previous club. If the team decides to join a new club, the position will become the property of the new club.

 

  1. Health and Safety
  • All players must adhere to the Health and Safety rules of the School where the games are conducted.
  • All players must wear suitable court shoes while playing.
  • HSL is not responsible for any personal injuries.

 

  1. Game rules:

 

  1. Deadline:
  • Clubs and the players (if not associated with any clubs) are responsible to meet the deadlines set by the Admin for payment and team confirmations. If the deadline is not met, the Clubs and/or Players may lose their positions and the opportunity to play in the League.

 

  1. Media Rights
  • HSL League organizers reserve the right to record and photograph the HSL League events and proceedings. The videos and photographs may be used for live transmissions via Facebook live and/or on HSL website.
